There is a lot of variety in production boats. The expense of series production molds however does force the designer to compromise for mass appeal. So you can’t find a production version of a great old design. You can’t find hydrofoils, ultra shoal work boats, or barrier free designs for sail or power. You can restore an old boat and get the virtues, but are stuck with the vices of design and materials from that era.
